Based on statistics,the leakage of mechanical seal is mainly caused by sealing surface and friction pair .

Preparation work before sealing machinery

1. Check mechanical seal model, specification whether accord with the design drawing,and if all components 

(expecially sealing surface ,auxiliary seal ring)are damaged,deformed,cracked.Once finding out defects,should 

change or repair.

2. Check fit dimensions ,roughness and parallelism of all mechanical sealed parts whether accord with design 

requirements.

3. When using small spring mechanical seal ,remember to check the length and rigidness .

4. Check axial movement ,natural vibration frequency and deflection of main engine ,to see if they are conform to 

technical requirements.check whether seal cavity is in line with mounting dimension ,and if sealing cover is vertical 

to shaft.

Common requirements:axial movement less than ±0.5mm;natural vibration frequency (rotating ring seal) less than

0.06mm;axis maximum deflection less than 0.05mm;contact surface between sealing cover and gasket to

centerline can have a non-perpendicularity tolerance of 0.03～0.05mm.

5. Keep clean ,especially should keep sealing face between rotating ring and stationary ring ,and face of auxiliary 

seal ring away from dust .Besides , do not allow to wipe sealing surface with unclean cloth.

6. Do not beat sealing elements by tools, in case of damaging the seals.
